Where Science Meets Medicine
This page was last updated: July 5, 2009
The 21st century has witnessed major advances in biotechnology and biomedicine. Medical biotechnology is a broad field which utilizes modern technology in the discovery, implementation, and solving of biomedical problems. The field encompasses drug discovery/pharmaceuticals, human genetics/genetic engineering, medical informatics/communications, bionics, healthcare management and electronic marketing of biomedical products, just to mention a few. Bionics is the study of living systems with the intention of applying their principles to the design of physical systems. Drawing on interdisciplinary research in the technical and life sciences, bionics has been applied in developing audiovisual equipment based on human eye and ear function, to design air and naval craft patterned after the biological structure of birds and fish, and to incorporate principles of the human neurological system in data-processing systems. Bionics has also been applied in the development of artificial limbs controlled by recognition of the electrical patterns in muscle tissue. We in medibionics support physicians, clinicians, hospitals, research institutions, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies and patients through scientific research, technology development, education and more.
